Old-Time Strongman

From West Tech CrossFit

Design

A pale yellow burnout crew neck. The fabric is thinned in short, streaky patches, so the shirt looks mottled and slightly sheer. "WestTech" runs across the chest in red, set in an angular typeface with blackletter touches. Below it, a black engraving of an old-time strongman fills the chest. He wears a mustache, a sleeveless singlet, a wide buckled belt, tights and laced boots, and he holds a globe barbell overhead in one hand with his other arm flung out to the side and a band on the wrist. He stands on a mound of cross-hatched ground, and "CrossFit" runs across its base in the same red type. The back is blank.

Coach’s Comments

Long before anyone had heard of a WOD, strongmen in singlets and laced boots were hoisting globe barbells overhead in circus tents and vaudeville halls. The one-arm lift was a crowd favorite, a feat that took as much balance and coordination as raw strength. The spirit of heavy lifting is alive and well in CrossFit gyms across the world. Since West Tech CrossFit is a nonprofit affiliate located on a high school campus, one could say that this shirt is about both history and physical education.
